I've been Spotted!

While watching tv my wife Deb spotted me in a BC Lotto commercial. She said it's only for one frame and sent a still of the said frame to me. I was astonished. Is that me? I think it is?

Check out the still of frame 14,756 for yourself folks. Is that really me in the background all blurry with no nose?

also with google searching I found out I have been spotted in numerous locations such as here

Here's the commercial in it's entirety.

roughing it out

had a breakthrough last night for my first stopmotion short film. I have been stuck on how to shoot it but I think I have figured it out. All I'll say right now is it will be traditional stop motion but with my head on the puppet's body. Ha!

Here is rough concept of that.

scratch that

Well I feel a bit different now. Funny how things go.

Deb and I went for a biiiiiiiiiiiiiig long hike though our beautiful forests here in BC Vancouver up by UBC. We needed some air and wanted to do some location scouting for Monster. I'm pretty sure this is where we are going to shoot for most of the film.

As I was snapping photos of the trees, my phone rang. It was my agent. She said I booked a "callback" for a scratch and win lotto commercial I just auditioned for last week. Wow! I hung up the phone. hmm. that feels good. am I being silly? throwing something good away here? Man this is hard... maybe this was a sign?

I had fun with that audition and it contradicted what I was feeling and now I got a call back.

hmm...go with the flow huh? hmmm...I decided to change my tactics. Deb says to me... go with the flow and just let it unfold on its own. F it. I'm just going to need to find a balance to fit this in my life.

Shelley and Justin left positive comments as well. they are both right. Go with the flow and have fun, it will come.

Colleagues at work asked me about it and I ended up talking about it to them, something I usually feel uncomfortable talking about. But I think talking about it made me realize actually what a good thing I have going here. Booking or no booking.

maybe the truth is that after a year of not booking a role, it had it's toll on me and now that I got one little call back I am feeling better. It's kind of embarrassing but ah well.

Acting is the hardest thing I have ever done, really hard, but for some reason it's been the most fun and rewarding creative aspect of my life.

Thanks for listening and those who reached out and gave me encouragement. It was very sweet and had in affect on me more than you know. thank you and thanks for listening.

Monster is also coming along beautifully. check it out...

no more auditions please

I have been acting professionally for about 6 years with an agent. did some tv,high profile auditions, some indy films for other people. was a great experience. but i think it's time to hang the hat.

everything my agent gets me is such a chore. I am not having any fun or feeling inspired by tv or commercials or little bit parts for crap studio films. (tooth fairy was one) this is not turning me on. It`s been a wonderful experience but experiences I have outgrown and learned.

For now on, I'm just sticking with whatever comes up in the path. it's not about money or getting on tv anymore. I have grown out of that. What really turns me on is creativity. sounds like bs, but it isn't. if it`s not creative or turns me on, I get bored. I have to make sure everything I do is meaningful and fun, or it`s just a big wank.

actor
you can pretend till you really feel
but you never beamed or felt real sad
never kicked so hard your driven
aint got the guts to be so real
half in good and half out bad
no cure coming till your really livin
go back and let it all soak in
wipe down your perfect part
let your hair fall flat and your soul twist
it really don't matter fat or thin
they eat your bone and heart
whether your salty or crisp
don't you get it mockery
its all a dime and whore
magic wand and rabbit hat
beg for your food artistry
love your work to it's core
break the rules the actor roars

My Friend Barry, Ep 3 "Rut Bir"

My Friend Barry, Episode 3, "Rut Bir" from Rich Johnson on Vimeo.

This is my favorite one so far. It turned out to be a weird one and I love that. This was also the most expensive episode I have made so far. The super 8 film, break away bottles and beer topped me way over budget but it was well worth it.The budget came to about 500 clams. Nathan and Peter never did much acting before this and I thought they did some brilliant work! Both of them are naturally gifted when it comes to comedic timing.I hope to have the chance to work with them again.
